Depends on what is wrong with it and what you use it for. You can upgrade most of your hardware for a lot cheaper than buying a new rig

Curtis, Thank you for bringing this up. I agree with you. It is important to ask a person what their intentions are with a new computer before a recommendation is made. If they are only checking email and/or keeping the cost low I would say the single core may be good for them, but I would make it a point to stress the pros and cons of the single core and any other hardware.

If I do recommend a single core computer, I do my best to help find one at a very reasonable cost.

My intention of this article was to reach the average person and inform them of what is really out there and let them know the price or brand does not make the PC better or worse. I think there is a lot of confusion when picking out a computer. I feel a person should be aware of what they are buying and what it can do for them.

If someone comes to me and says they only need something to check their email with then I have no problem pointing them out to a single core system. I think maybe one reason they are still out there is because they are still selling. Chances are good that these processors are ending up in machines purchased by those that need nothing more than something to check their email with or possibly those who cannot afford the newest standard specs.

I think Avast might have recently fallen off of this list. Some of my customers who I'd previously installed the "free" version are now getting a pop-up notifying them of an expiration date and an offer of buying their software.
